Last days of January

This week I'm working on completing 2 WIPs.

Today I worked on House Rules and got the blue added.

Over the weekend I put some back stitching into Country Companion. There's still a bit more gravel to stitch as well.

We went to a paint nite in the city with some friends Saturday afternoon. The guys even participated with little complaining. (though I doubt they will be a part of a repeat date). I love my hubbys moon. The blending turned out really good.

Working through the Wips

Whoop! 1st WIP finish of the new year. "Tranquillity" by Ship's Manor. I stitched it on Jazz Aida & it will finally go to the kid's bus driver.

I added the phrase "Today is Beautiful" in Hawaiian to fill up a bit more of the empty space. While this photo looks grey, the frame is actually a blue colour. It went to Leah, my brother Jon's GF.

And for my participation in this years Smalls SAL by Stitching Lotus: Here are some of the smalls I was able to do this month.

http://stitchinglotus.ca/2017-sal/

We support 4 children through World Vision. One of our girls is celebrating her birthday next month so I've stitched up this bag to hold her marbles in.

Another little quick stitch for a customer who complained they felt left out from not getting an ornament year

I finished off Ray's little Bumble Bit pillow for blessing me with a couple of these 2L buckets of his delicious honey each year.

                                                      Up close.

And last but not least.....This spiralled Fox

There have been others I've put a couple stitches into but not made much leeway. There was a drastic number error in the Supernatural piece I was working on for my daughter and now I will have to start all over again. The designers digital copy did not print out properly and shaved off at least 4 lines through the middle of the pattern so when I went to add the words into the shelf, there wasn't enough space. *waaaa*

Unfinished Items from years past

YIKES! I've just gone through my yearly lists of new starts and counted up all the WIPs that were left straggling after the year was over. I'd love for this to be the year I can thin out that bin, as it is full to bursting. I'm sure if I avoided the temptation (hahaha like that will happen) of the fantastic new stitches I see about becoming new starts I could make a bigger dent. After all, I do have the Start/Finish quota at a higher finish level than I do Wips at the end of each year.....Looking back in:

2013: 38 starts - 29 finishes = 9 left overs
  • Then 3 more of those were completed in 2014; 1 in 2015 & another in 2016. So that brought it down to 4.
  •  38 starts and only 4 left overs.
  2014: I had 33 new Starts. 16 of those became finishes = 17 left overs             (Plus 3 of '13)
  • Grand total 19 finishes that year.
2015: There were 58 New Starts. 46 of them became Finishes leaving me with just 12 left overs
  • Plus I finished 9 left over from 2014; and 1 from 2013. Grand finishing total of 56! The same good record of completions flowed over into 2016 where I had: 55 New Starts. 44 became finishes; 11 were left over but I also had 5 finishes from the 2015 list; 2 from 2014 and 1 of 2013.
  • Finishes total for 2016 was 52.
These are the Saddened Projects wanting to be completed: Some are so old that I'm not sure which year I even started them. They were uncovered when I went rooting through some of the storage room :( I'm sure there are others, packed away in the basement boxes that will one day be found. But I'm in no hurry to uncover those again until this list has been reduced.

2017 - Happy New Year

This year has started our fairly well I think. Its already done the 1st week of 2017 - which is a little freaky that it's gone by so quickly already. Mom hosted our immediate family get together this past Wednesday. We wanted to do our present exchanges personally & separate from the large extended family hub bub. The intent was that at least 4 of her 5 children could be in attendance. My sister lives at the other end of the province & as the sole-bread earner in her house, could not get away. She'll be coming some time next week for a few days.
The one brother, whom I do not get along with & his girlfriend chose not to show up after all - which for me was a good thing; but for mom, was disappointing.

Regardless of that life drama - we did manage to have a good evening. The gift I had intended for my youngest brother fell through so I had to improvise and make his a stitching FAST. I was still putting the final chunks of white into the clouds as we drove down to mom's & popped it make shiftly into a shadow box frame when we arrived. Attached to the plush backing of the box, it did not fit after all, so all the trimming I did to have it centered made it too short to cover the full border of a plain mounting board (which I'd brought with me JIC). Still, it turned out okay. The pattern was one I purchased off Etsy from Lucky Star Stitches called Floating Island 2.

We used to watch a lot of Hayao Miyazaki when we were younger. I passed the love of his films along to my children as well. Though our personal favorites vary.  In this piece, I changed up the "OK" on the Zeppelin to just being extended windows (more like Laputa's Tiger Moss) as I didn't feel there would be corporate branding in a fanatical sky world. The kids hadn't seen the piece until I gifted it, knew immediately what I was referencing (Laputa's) Castle in the Sky. I do plan on stitching this one for myself eventually along with the 2nd one.

I've completed Ray's Bumble Bit gift. I noticed a counting error so had to frog out & adjust one line. I'm going to try my hand at forming it into a biscorn. I've not yet used this finishing technique.

Travel Stitching:
My "truck travel" new start is of a swirly fox being stitched on dark green aida.  It makes the orange of the fox stand out more. Plus I think foxes should be surrounded by grass This "Modern Patterned Fox" I also purchased from Etsy's Stage Appeal Crafts.

WIP's Work:
I have pulled out the piece "Drinks" as my purse work. I thought there was more work done on it. But it really does look like a new start as there's only a single line of blue and one of white on it.

Other Life Fun:
I entered a photo quote challenge contest. The company had a photo of a dog & a goat. Up for grabs was a calendar w/ this photo & a few fridge magnets. My phrase wasn't anything too witty but apparently it amused the owner enough that she named myself and another lady as winners. Later, once I'd forwarded my mailing address she'd inquired if I was planning on attending the May critter fair. I'd told her it's been penciled onto my calendar already - dad is hoping to get himself some more small hobbyist livestock this year, I thought I'd do my animal auction rounds as see if I could find him good deals. In addition to my calendar winnings - I have also won myself a few Easter Egger chicks!!! Sweet deal! Mom was hoping for some EE's to add to her flock. I'm at my max for birds I can have in my enclosure so I won't be able to keep them myself or I would. (Easter Eggers are a mixed breed of chicken that lay eggs with a green tint shell). I already have Harriet and Skippy who do this for me.

December Smalls SAL

Eek! We've reached the end of the year. Time to take restock of the WIPs bin and figure out what will be a plausible completion for next year.
I didn't reach my goal to get all the customers I wanted to stitch ornaments for done. But there's always 2017 to start early.

We had our extended family Christmas, with game gift. Aunt Trish won the Dear Pluto.  My Nanny won the HP piece, but I think she wound up trading gifts with my cousin Rachel instead. Guess she's not really a PotterHead ;)

Barry enjoyed his ornament.

Cecile enjoyed her snowman.

Some of the other customers got initials for their gifts.

Just before Christmas, We went to the Japanese Village to celebrate a friends 40th plus his finishing the last exam & Red Seal of his ticket to be an RV tech (yes this is actually a ticketed trade. Go figure). We had time before the meal so hubby and I walked through Michaels and this little gem was put together on the fly 😂 *hehe* using a metal hanging, some chalk board, an ornament, markers and 3M adhesive.  He can either hang it in their camper or at work.

I made a couple more of these simple Christmas Stitchings for a few other customers.

Boy child 2 had his 18th birthday so he's moved up to ManChild status. He liked the Gremlins piece he got for his Xmas gift. (Didn't finish the daughters one in time though). Sorry the photos blurry, his room is quite dark and the iPad doesn't take the clearest of images. It's on glow in the dark cloth, but I don't think it will ever have that problem given its placement.
😉 This concludes it. All the birthdays are done this month. All 3 of our sons are now adults. ManChild 1 had his 20th birthday yesterday (New Years Eve baby). Even our daughter, whose bday kicks off our 4 kids Dec B days, had her 16th. They don't stay small long enough.

My brother sent me some tasty lobsters from Nova Scotia for my Christmas gift. My girls enjoyed the small bits of meat and fat from the shells. (Along with their waffles)

I revamped this little ornament, though it wound up messier than I would have liked, glue gun kept faltering. I've sent it to my newly discovered sister. _/( o - o )\_
Turns out my biological father was all about sharing the love. I grew up thinking I was the eldest of 5. (Still the eldest of moms 5 though.) Then 20 yrs ago found out I had other sibling. That I was now the 2nd eldest of 8.....and now am the 2nd eldest of 9.  From Shawn I gained a fantastic elder brother and 3 younger sisters (this newest Yule discovered sister is only 9mths younger than myself).

Looking forward to getting more stitching done down from the WIPs bin as well as a few other goodies.

Outlander ( April Smalls)

I caught the 1st season of Outlander onto last year and was hooked. I’d made a generalized post about it and had a bunch of friends and fami...
